REDHAWKS AVOID ELIMINATION WITH WIN

Needing a win on Friday night to stay alive in the 2022 American Association playoffs the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks hit for eight extra-base hits and defeated the Winnipeg Goldeyes 8-3 at Newman Outdoor Field. John Silviano and Peter Maris each hit a multi-run home run in the win. The RedHawks have hit 12 extra-base hits (five doubles, two triples, and five home runs) through their first two games of the playoffs.

 

Silviano kicked things off in the second inning with a two-run home run to open the scoring for the RedHawks. The right fielder is now batting .400 with three walks, two home runs, and three RBI in the series. Later that inning Peter Maris hit a three-run home run to extend the Fargo-Moorhead lead to 5-0.

 

 

The RedHawks would score on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fifth inning to increase their lead to six runs. Winnipeg starter Luis Ramirez (0-1) earned the loss after allowing six runs on eight hits and a walk in five innings pitched. Ramirez struck out eight batters in the loss.

 

 

Tyler Grauer (1-0) started for the RedHawks and earned the win after a solid start. The southpaw earned the win after allowing only two runs on four hits and two walks and struck out five batters in six innings pitched. Winnipeg third baseman Ian Sagdal opened the scoring for the Goldeyes with a solo home run in the sixth inning. Then, in the seventh, right fielder Michael Crouse hit a two-run home run to cut the lead to 7-3. RedHawks reliever Tanner Riley allowed the home run to Crouse. Reid Birlingmair, Joe Jones, and Alex DuBord also pitched for Fargo-Moorhead in the win.

 

 

Alec Olund hit a solo home run in the sixth inning and Evan Alexander scored on a fielder’s choice in the eighth inning to give the RedHawks some insurance. Winnipeg relievers Bryan Blanton and Travis Seabrooke allowed the respective runs to score. Paul Schwendel also pitched in the game for the Goldeyes.

 

 

Fargo-Moorhead and Winnipeg will play a winner-take-all game three on Saturday night at 6:30 p.m. at Newman Outdoor Field. LHP Peyton Wigginton (9-3, 3.84 ERA in the regular season) will start for the RedHawks in game three and is set to face Winnipeg right-handed starter Freisis Adames (8-4, 5.06 ERA).
