WIGGINTON THROWS COMPLETE GAME IN REDHAWKS WIN

Fargo-Moorhead left-handed pitcher Peyton Wigginton (6-2) allowed only two runs on five hits and a walk in nine innings pitched and led the RedHawks (46-24) to a 7-2 win over the Sioux City Explorers (30-39) on Wednesday night at Newman Outdoor Field.

The RedHawks scored all seven of their runs in the first three innings of the game. Second baseman Peter Maris (2-for-5) continued his hot start to the series and hit a two-run home run in the first inning. Two innings later shortstop Sam Dexter hit a grand-slam to extend the RedHawks lead to 6-0. Fargo-Moorhead would make it 7-0 on a Manuel Boscan RBI single later in the same inning.

Sioux City starter Ma’Khail Hilliard (0-2) allowed the seven runs on six hits and four walks before being pulled after 2.2 innings pitched. Hilliard earned the loss despite striking out four batters. Relievers Blaine Hardy, Nate Gercken, and Brandon Brosher combined to pitch a combined scoreless final 5.1 innings.

The Explorers got on the board in the sixth inning on a Danry Vasquez RBI single. Left fielder Sebastian Zawada hit a solo home run in the ninth inning to make the score 7-2.

Fargo-Moorhead and Sioux City will conclude their three-game series with a 7:02 p.m. game tomorrow night at Newman Outdoor Field. LHP Ledgend Smith (0-1, 3.00 ERA) will pitch for the RedHawks and is set to face Explorers starter RHP Zach Hedges (1-5, 5.92 ERA).
